Description

The presenters explain the ethical issues relating to pain management in injured workers. They provide an understanding of the injured workers’ concerns about pain management and the complementary priorities related to opioids among physicians, government agencies and law enforcement. Advancements in therapeutic practices have changed the prescribing of opioids and the practice of pain management.

Learning Objectives: 1. Summarize a brief history of prescribing opioids; 2. Explain the competing concerns of patient symptom management and risks of opioids; 3. Explain the growing concern regarding opioids and public health; and 4. Define the complementary priorities regarding opioids among physicians, government agencies and law enforcement.
