Date: Thursday, March 10, 2016 Time: 8:15 AM - 9:15 AM Speakers: Mark Alexander, Loss Control Consultant, Donegal Insurance Group Track: Emergency Preparedness and Response Secondary Track: Government/Regulatory Session Type: Educational Session Skill Level: Basic Description: Many companies are not aware of why they need or may not need eyewash/emergency shower equipment. In many instances, they also do not know how often they need to test and inspect the equipment. This session covers the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) requirements and the American National Standards Institute standard for the installation, testing and maintenance of this equipment, including water temperature. OSHA can cite a company for not having the equipment when needed, not having clear access to the equipment, and not inspecting or maintaining it. It can also cite a company for not inspecting and maintaining the equipment even though the company does not need it at the present, such as in cases where a company moves into a facility where the previous owner was required to have the equipment. Learning Objectives: 1. Identify the types of chemicals and materials that require emergency eyewash/showers; 2. Describe what to do when the equipment is not needed; and 3. List the inspection and maintenance requirements for the different types of equipment.
