Many companies are not aware of why they need or may not need eyewash/emergency shower equipment. In many instances, they also do not know how often they need to test and inspect the equipment. This session covers the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) requirements and the American National Standards Institute standard for the installation, testing and maintenance of this equipment, including water temperature. OSHA can cite a company for not having the equipment when needed, not having clear access to the equipment, and not inspecting or maintaining it. It can also cite a company for not inspecting and maintaining the equipment even though the company does not need it at the present, such as in cases where a company moves into a facility where the previous owner was required to have the equipment.
