Description:

Combustible dust fires, deflagrations and explosions continue to occur at an alarming rate throughout the United States. This presenter discusses the requirements prescribed in National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Standard on the Fundamentals of Combustible Dusts (NFPA 652) and why NFPA created this standard. He also describes and illustrates how NFPA 652 addresses combustible dust hazards and how it works within the current structure of the existing NFPA combustible dust standards. In addition, the presenter discusses how NFPA 652 relates to the current Occupational Safety and Health Administration's combustible dust enforcement activities.



Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the general requirements prescribed in NFPA 652 and how they work with the current industry or commodity-specific NFPA combustible dust standards; 2. Recall the requirements of a dust hazard analysis and why it is so important; and 3. Recognize the consequences of incorrectly assessing and mitigating combustible dust hazards.
