Description:

This real life story involving the unnecessary death of Tommy Osier in a grain silo accident brings awareness to the result of working without proper personal protective equipment and with faulty equipment. This story shows first responders, fire fighters, emergency medical technicians, etc. what happened on May 30, 2011, from a mother's prospective using photos taken by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) investigator.

1. Describe the hazards involved in a silo engulfment incident; 2. Identify using MIOSHA photos what happened during the four-hour recovery process; 3. Explain the importance of proper equipment maintenance; and 4. Recognize the need for proper protective equipment during rescue, recovery and while working on a farm.
