A lot has changed since you had that home fire safety training in grammar school. Today’s modern homes and furnishings present new hazards that make home fires more dangerous than ever. In this presentation, an experienced municipal fire chief and emergency medical technician uses photos of an actual house fire to illustrate these hazards. He also explains what you can do to increase you and your family’s survivability in the event of a fire in your home. The most common causes of home fires are also covered.

1. Recall the dangers of fire in the home; 2. Explain the importance of proper type of smoke detectors in the home; 3. Recognize the often-overlooked deficiencies of smoke detectors; and 4. Describe how to increase a child's chance of survival in a fire.
