Implementing Early Behavioral Intervention into the Ohio BWC [621] | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Date: Wednesday, March 9, 2016 Time: 8:15 AM - 9:15 AM Speakers: David Schwartz, Chair, Ohio Psychological Association Task Force on BWC reform, Hamilton Health Associates Track: Rehabilitation Secondary Track: Social and Behavioral Session Type: Educational Session Skill Level: Intermediate Description: Behavioral factors such as noncompliance, fear of re-injury, anxiety, etc. are powerful contributors to prolonged disability after injury and are essentially impossible to treat under current Ohio BWC guidelines. BWC and the Ohio Psychological Association developed a system to intervene rapidly in cases. Centered on a panel of psychologists trained in early intervention and working within a brief treatment model, the system does not require the addition of a psychological diagnosis to the claim. This workshop traces the history, development and planned rollout of this panel. Learning Objectives: 1. Recognize injured workers at risk for prolonged disability due to behavioral co-morbidities; 2. Explain the rationale and structure for developing a system to deliver early intervention within the BWC system; and 3. Describe the new BWC panel of psychologists certified in early behavioral intervention.
