Description:

Combustible dusts come from many sources and pose a significant risk across a multitude of industries. However, because of their complexity, employers frequently overlook combustible dust hazards and combustible dust fires, deflagrations and explosions continue to occur at an alarming rate. This workshop reviews the various types of testing used to determine the combustibility and properties of a dust. The presenter describes how you can identify, assess and mitigate combustible dust hazards. He also provides a glimpse into what the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) looks for during combustible dust inspections, illustrations of typical combustible dust hazards and a review of how to apply OSHA, National Fire Prevention Association and other combustible standards.

Learning Objectives:
1. Recognize the properties of various combustible dusts and how to determine if dusts are combustible; 2. Identify which combustible dust standards apply to various industries and processes, and how to apply these standards; and 3. Identify ways to assess and mitigate combustible dust hazards.
