Description:

The presenter describes the basic parts and operation of a fire extinguisher along with providing information to aid in conducting monthly inspections in accordance with National Fire Protection Association Standard 10 (2010 edition) and the 2011 Ohio Fire Code. He teaches participants the different classifications of fire and fire extinguishers, and the proper procedures for using a fire extinguisher. Attendees can extinguish a fire during a hands-on demonstration.

1. Identify the different classifications of fires; 2. Distinguish between the different types of fire extinguishers; 3. Explain how to conduct an effective monthly inspection on a fire extinguisher; and 4. Effectively extinguish a fire utilizing a portable fire extinguisher.
