However, machines can have a variety of hazards that if not guarded, properly controlled, or locked out, can cause serious injury. This session enables employers to take a more in-depth look at the necessary precautions to allow employees to operate equipment safely. These machine-safeguarding concepts covered apply to many types of machines, equipment and associated hazards. Learning Objectives: 1. Explain the importance of machinery assessments; 2. Recognize an unguarded machine and appropriate guards, devices and methods to reduce operating risks; 3. Identify the machines covered by an Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulation or American National Standards Institute B11 Safety Standard; and 4. Recall requirements from National Fire Protection Association 79-2015 including disconnects, motor starters with dropout protection, emergency-stops and voltage reduction.
