Culture of C.A.R.E to Prevent Serious and Fatal Incidents [41.24] | ||||||||||||||||||
Date: Thursday, March 12, 2020 Time: 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM Speakers: Warren Hubler, Vice President for Health, Safety and Environment, Helmerich & Payne International Drilling Co. Track: Oil, Gas and Mining Secondary Track: Construction Session Type: Educational Session Skill Level: Intermediate Description: Many safety and health professionals operate under the assumption that prevention of less severe injuries will lead to a corresponding reduction of serious and fatal incidents. That assumption is wrong! Serious and fatal injury reduction requires a culture of C.A.R.E. to control and remove exposures that are the precursors to severe incidents. Hear how to implement a new strategy for serious injury and fatality prevention. Learning Objectives: 1. Recognize traditional safety measures and methods: declining total recordable incident rate, days without Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) injuries, no harm achieved through intense focus on minor injuries, and safety awards for OSHA-free achievements. 2. Define a new strategy for serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention by developing a culture of C.A.R.E. to control and remove SIF exposures. 3. Identify the way we measure and achieve safety excellence regardless of industry type.
