Date: Wednesday, March 11, 2020 Time: 8:15 AM - 9:15 AM Location: Greater Columbus Convention Center Speakers: Steven Lavender, Associate Professor, The Ohio State University Track: Distribution and Logistics Secondary Track: Ergonomics and Overexertion Session Type: Educational Session Skill Level: All Levels Description: This presentation provides findings from four research projects aimed at improving ergonomics in distribution center operations: The effects of different flooring materials that can relieve lower extremity pain in distribution centers; how to lessen the shock experienced by the knees as standup fork trucks are driven in and out of trailers; the efficacy of an articulating conveyor belt for manually unloading and loading trailers; and efficacy of the Ecopick lift assist device. Additionally, the presentation provides ergonomics best practices identified via an Ohio Occupational Safety and Health Research Program Grant aimed at identifying best ergonomics practices in grocery distribution centers. Learning Objectives: 1. Describe how to evaluate different types of ergonomics interventions to determine their efficacy in reducing stress on the musculoskeletal system. 2. Explain the value of selected ergonomics interventions that are currently available for dock operations at distribution centers. 3. Discuss ergonomics best practices that are effective in distribution centers.
