Engineered Solutions to Noise in Manufacturing Facilities [33.21]
Date: Thursday, March 12, 2020
Time: 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM

Speakers:
John Sofra, Market Manager-Airflow, Industrial, Environmental, Kinetics Noise Control Inc.

Track: Industrial Safety
Secondary Track: Manufacturing
Session Type: Educational Session
Skill Level: Basic

Description:
The purpose of this presentation is to show that successful engineering solutions are available to common and custom noise situations within manufacturing facilities. The old saying, "we cannot do anything, so we wear earplugs," is outdated for today's facilities. Examples of successful noise control via sound absorption, sound blocking, and airflow attenuation are presented. Solutions include proper ventilation and maintenance access to manufacturing processes and equipment.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe ways of implementing cost-effective, successful noise-control solutions.
2. Explain how many aspects of sound control can be designed to avoid process flow, maintenance interference as well as properly ventilate a manufacturing process and equipment while still providing required noise control.
3. Define the importance of budgeting a one-time, engineered solution, eliminating the need for personal hearing protection and the long-term associated costs.
