Ordinary materials, such as grain, sawdust, plastic, and even metals can fuel violent explosions that hurt or kill employees and cause catastrophic damage to facilities. This session examines the five items essential for a dust explosion to occur, and what happens when a dust explosion occurs. The session reviews basic National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) concepts with a practical look at how you can apply them to your operations. Learning Objectives: 1. Summarize combustible dust and why it is dangerous. 2. Discuss the basic concepts of what causes a combustible dust explosion. 3. Explain how a combustible dust fire or explosion can affect a facility. 4. List methods to reduce the risk of a combustible dust fire or explosion. 5. Recall key NFPA standards for the basic management of combustible dust hazards.
