Track: Training and Education Session Type: Educational Session Skill Level: Intermediate Description: Virtual Reality (VR) puts trainees in places and situations they are likely to encounter on the job and lets them experience how their actions affect outcomes – all in a safe environment. VR helps employees feel confident they can perform their tasks safely and the realistic training experiences allow them to express curiosities – which keeps them more connected. Learners often find VR training more engaging and relevant than classroom or e-courses. The instructor demonstrates an example use of VR and analyzes the benefits versus the challenges of this training method. Learning Objectives: 1. Describe how VR can be used to identify hazards without exposure. 2. Explain how to create hands-on experiences when realistic exercises aren’t feasible. 3. Describe how to deliver consistent training for each worker, regardless of location or trainer. 4. Identify that you can deliver more effective training because research suggests VR training increases knowledge retention.
