Most health-care professionals have difficulty recognizing different types of violence and how to effectively, ethically, and legally avoid, escape, de-escalate, or physically protect themselves and co-workers. But you can! This is a fun, interactive, and physically active workshop. While not required, we strongly encourage your active participation. Learning Objectives: 1. List the essential components of self-defense law in workplace environments and recognize violence dynamics and escalation patterns. 2. Recognize common barriers to health care and social services professionals engaging in verbal and physical self-protective action. 3. Demonstrate verbal and physical strategies and skills associated with avoidance and escape from the de-escalation of high-risk situations. 4. Demonstrate physical self-protection skills.
