Date: Wednesday, March 8, 2017 Time: 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM Location: Hyatt Regency Columbus Room: Union A Speakers: Carolyn Sommerich, Associate Professor, The Ohio State University Track: Ergonomics Secondary Track: Medical Session Type: Educational Session Skill Level: Intermediate Description: A participatory ergonomics process was initiated with imaging technologists to develop interventions to improve work conditions and reduce occupational exposure to musculoskeletal discomfort and injury risk factors. Participatory ergonomics involves researchers and workers collaborating to improve work methods, tools and conditions. The primary emphasis was on engineering controls. Many intervention concepts were generated through the process. The most promising were tested and favorably assessed by workers. The presenter describes the participatory techniques and interventions. Learning Objectives: Discuss participatory methods for working with imaging technologists and other workers to develop new ideas for workplace ergonomic and safety improvements Explain several concepts for reducing imaging technologists' exposure to risk factors for work-related musculoskeletal disorder
