Speaker: Ryan Pollack, HSE Manager, XL Industrial Services Inc.
Pollack holds an Associate of Arts and Sciences in fire protection and a Bachelor of Science in emergency management from the University of Akron. Since graduating from Akron in 2001, Pollack has worked entirely in the occupational safety field. He has experience working in insurance risk management and contract manufacturing. However, he has found his niche in construction safety. His career has taken him throughout the country and has given him the opportunity to work with multiple business entities. This experience afforded Pollack an opportunity to truly develop and implement best practices. He earned a Board of Certified Safety Professionals - Construction Safety and Health Technician designation in 2014. He also holds an Occupational Safety and Health Administration 510, 500 and 502. Pollack has developed contractor and subcontractor safety programs. These include qualification metrics for commercial contractors, industrial contractors, manufacturers and a fortune 500 utility company. Being on both the customer and contractor side has opened his eyes to flaws in the contractor qualification process. His unique approach to contractor qualification focuses not only on lagging indicators but also leading indicators. What were once red lights, are now red flags. Pollack is the manager of health, safety and environmental for XL Industrial Services in Laporte, Ind.
