Speaker: William Schmidt, J.D., Chief of Investigations, State Medical Board of Ohio
Mr. Schmidt is the Chief of Investigations for the State Medical Board of Ohio. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing the Medical Board’s 20 field investigators. He facilitates and conducts in-service training programs for investigative staff. Mr. Schmidt also serves as the Board’s liaison with law enforcement in special investigations and participates in multi-agency task forces. Mr. Schmidt received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration/Accounting from the University of Akron. A graduate of The Ohio State University College of Law, he began working with the Medical Board in 1978. Throughout his professional career with the Medical Board, Mr. Schmidt has served in a variety of senior management positions. He authored the Medical Board’s policy statements and rules related to controlled substance prescribing, impairment, and pain management. He was instrumental in establishing the Medical Board’s Compliance Unit, which monitors the practices of over 350 licensees on probation with the Board for disciplinary reasons. An accomplished speaker, he has addressed state and national audiences on issues related to controlled substance prescribing, pain management, impairment and health care fraud.
