Speaker: Almar Walter, Director of Diversity and inclusion, Capital University
Almar is the director for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Capital University (Columbus, OH) and currently serves on the Provost’s Leadership Council. His primary responsibilities include; providing strategic leadership for diversity on campus, academic support, diversity education/training, as well as developing campus-wide initiatives that engage students in issues pertaining to multiculturalism and social justice. Almar also has a passion for teaching and has taught freshman orientation courses as well as cross-cultural communication for several years. For nearly a decade, he has worked in higher education specifically within the diversity/multicultural field. He has traveled to 13 countries studying and learning with people from diverse backgrounds in an effort in increase his cultural competency. Almar is also a consultant for Leadership Training Consultants, Inc., located in Columbus, Ohio. The business specializes in providing leadership training to major corporations, small businesses, public government, private foundations, and institutions of higher education. Almar’s background is in business management, education, diversity training, and program development. He earned his B.S. degree with a double major in Business Management and Human Resource Management; an M.B.A with a concentration in Organizational Leadership; and a M.A. in Education from The University of Findlay. He has presented on various inclusion topics at several conferences and universities including Kibi International University (Okayama, Japan), Ohio Association for College Admission Counseling (Columbus, OH)The National Black Student Union Conference (Chicago, IL), North Park University Leadership Conference (Chicago, IL ), Alliance Student Leadership Conference (Mount Vernon, OH), The Ohio Diversity Officers Collaboration Annual Conference, Kiwans Club keynote speaker (Fostoria, OH), NAACP banquet speaker.
