Susan M. Havercamp received her doctorate from The Ohio State University in 1998 from a program that combined training in developmental disabilities and clinical psychology. After graduation, she worked in the Division for Prevention and Treatment of Developmental Disorders at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. There she continued her work on a multi-disciplinary team treating children and adults with developmental disabilities and mental health problems. After a year at UMDNJ, Dr. Havercamp accepted a position at the Center for Development and Learning at the University of North Carolina (1999). She conducted research and provided psychological services to children and adults with developmental disabilities while on the UNC faculty. In 2007, she moved to work at the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities, University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) at University of South Florida where her work concentrated on improving access to and quality of healthcare and on health promotion for children and adults with developmental disabilities. In 2009, Dr. Havercamp returned to OSU as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology and Director of the Health Promotion and Healthcare Parity program at Nisonger Center, UCEDD. Dr. Havercamp is also the Director of the Ohio Disability and Health Program (ODHP), a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded program with goals of improving access to care, health promotion, and emergency preparedness for Ohioans with disabilities. ODHP offers trainings for first responders and emergency planners on working with people with disabilities and inclusive emergency planning.
