Melton has 11 years of experience practicing in safety-related fields and eight years specializing as a safety professional focusing primarily on behavioral safety, safety culture, safety management system analysis, leadership development, and auditing safety systems. He earned his bachelor's in both political science and history. Melton also has safety declarations as a specialist in safety and health (SSH) - general industry, specialist in SSH – construction and certified safety and health official. He is well versed in working with organizations in identifying physical property risk and systemic safety improvements while offering a reasonable business solution. These solutions have included but are not limited to engineering improvements, knowledge gap reductions, and safety management system modification. Melton has experience primarily working with small- to medium-sized organizations to install and ultimately sustain a positive safety culture that emphasizes employee engagement and continuous improvement of a successful workplace. Melton has an accomplished skill set regarding occupational safety, health, and organizational behavior. He also has experience in practical consulting on topics relating to machine-related safety, confined space rescue coordination, workplace security, transportation safety, grain handling safety, hazardous material transportation, and risk assessment. Experienced in behavior-based safety (BBS) process introduction and safety culture assessment and analysis. He has implemented and supported cultural change in all industrial, manufacturing, agricultural, distribution, energy, and research environments. Melton is a current 10- and 30-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) general industry trainer. He has extensive experience in OSHA 1910 and more than 500 observer training classes, 100 coaching and BBS creation team classes, and 300 third-party audits performed.
