I’m an Industrial Safety Consultant with the Ohio BWC. In my current role I help companies in NE Ohio identify areas in which their safety program could improve to maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and reduce injuries. After identifying the safety weaknesses within the organizations I help them to change the current culture to a safety minded culture which supports a safer work environment. We accomplish this through the implementation of a comprehensive safety management plan that supports safety, production and quality.
During my time with Portage County Government I implemented a strategic safety program for Portage County Water Resources. After identifying the major areas of concern in safety for both the management team and the employees I developed a schedule for program development and training for all staff members. Employees were trained on safe work practices in the field while I lead a leadership training program thru the Ken Blanchard Companies for senior management and front line supervisors. Through these training programs I was able to redevelop the management approach with front line staff, while changing the safety work practices within the orginization.
While I worked for Summa Health Systems I lead a Quality Improvement / Performance Improvement project in the areas of safety & security. I identified at each of the six campuses areas of improvement needed within the safety and security realms. The basis for identifying areas of concern was a result of past Joint Commission Surveys and current practices within other organizations. The employee’s performance in each these areas was tracked and a recognition program was implemented for the areas which had the highest success rate on a quarterly basis. Through these initiatives we were able to identify the best use of security resources within each location to best serve our customers.
