Speaker: Carolyn Gutowsk, J.D., Management Consultant/Account Manager, Clemans, Nelson and Associates
Gutowsk began her career as an Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Section of the Office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine. In that role, she served as counsel to the Ohio Civil Rights Commission where she oversaw thousands of employment investigations and successfully prosecuted many employment and fair housing cases. She then transitioned in private practice working for a large Columbus firm defending employment discrimination actions. She successfully defended clients in state and federal court and before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Ohio Civil Right Commission, State Personnel Board of Review, and Ohio’s State Employment Relations Board. After practicing from plaintiff, defense, and administrative perspectives, Carrie decided to round out her diverse employment law experience by joining Clemans Nelson as a management consultant. At Clemans Nelson, she provides employment and labor guidance to hundreds of public sector clients statewide. However, her true passion lies in training, and she provides individually-tailored training for organizations regarding compliance with state and federal civil rights laws, with an emphasis on sexual harassment training and dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder in safety forces. She developed an innovative training covered by NBC4, 10TV News, and the Ohio State Law Journal called “Recognize and Respond: Police Interactions with Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder,” which has been provided to thousands of first responders across Ohio including as an instructor at the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy. She received her bachelor's degree magna cum laude from the Ohio State University and her juris doctorate cum laude from Capital University Law School.
