Speaker: Joyce Ryel, VP HSEQ, Fortis Energy Services, Inc.
Ryel works as the vice president of health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) at Fortis Energy Services. She has more than 20 years’ experience in HSEQ for the oil and gas industry. Prior to joining Fortis, Ryel spent the past two decades with Houston-based Superior Energy Services, serving in several roles, including health, safety, and environment director, HSEQ corporate auditor, and senior advisor – Department of Transportation and Regulatory Policy for Superior’s North American operations. Ryel received both her bachelor’s degrees in industrial safety and master’s in adult education with an emphasis in industrial safety from the University of Central Oklahoma. She has pursued her passion for safety and education by working with future safety professionals as a professor for the past 10 years, teaching transportation safety and DOT regulations. Ryel currently serves as the chairperson for the National Service, Transmission, Exploration, and Production Safety Network and served as chairperson for the American Petroleum Institute recommended practice 54 Task Group. She currently serves on the board of directors and as the national treasurer for the Association of Energy Service Companies (AESC), where she also served as president from 2015-2016, and on the planning committee of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Oil & Gas, Safety and Health Conference. Ryel has served in numerous leadership positions, including chairperson of the Mid-Continent Safety and Production Safety on the board of directors for the Oklahoma Trucking Association, and as a member of the safety committee of the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association. She was honored as the Oklahoma Safety Management Council Professional of the Year, along with the AESC’s Safety Professional of the Year.
