Speaker: Steven Naber, Ph.D., Business Intelligence and Analytics Manager, Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation
Naber holds a doctorate in mathematical statistics from The Ohio State University and has more than 30 years of experience, primarily as a consulting research statistician. While working at Battelle Memorial Institute, he specialized in environmental applications of statistical sampling design and data analysis, particularly in the areas of groundwater, soil, and sediment studies. Naber also worked on research studies in the areas of public health, transportation, and credibility assessment. While at The Ohio State University, he provided statistical design and analysis support for university researchers, local businesses and state agencies. His work in the Statistical Consulting Center included assisting with four biennial Child Care Market Rate Studies for Ohio, several veterinary orthopedic surgery studies, several studies for a lawn products company, several studies of cancer center nursing practice, several survey weight calculation projects with a Columbus-area survey group and numerous academic studies. Naber is currently the business intelligence and analytics manager with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation's (BWC) Division of Safety and Hygiene (DSH). He is responsible for providing statistical and data analytics expertise. This data is used in analysis of BWC claims, policy data, and mathematical and statistical support to the research programs of DSH and the joint BWC-National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health collaboration.
