Donny Owens I have been employed by Owens-Corning – Newark, Ohio for 39 years. I started doing safety for GMP Local #244 in 1983. This includes Safety Committeeman, Chairman of the GMP Safety Committee and since 1995, Safety and Training Co-ordinator for the Pipe Insulation Factory. During this time I have been involved in the implementation of the plant’s Behavior Based safety Process (COBRA). I have presented at the Ohio Safety Congress, 12 Ohio county safety Councils, the regional BST (Behavior Science Technology) conference and from 2006 - 2011 at the National BST conference. In addition I have facilitated our 13 local BBS conferences, which was attended by 32 different companies, including some competitors. Since the inception of our BBS process, we have reduced our OSHA Recordable Rate from 18.5 – Zero - 2015 (including over 1.3 million man-hours OSHA free) while increasing our plant conversion efficiency by 12%. I have helped to develop a Behavior Based safety process for self-observations, group observations, off the job observations and have helped several local facilities implement their own process.
