Denney has been around animals her entire life. She has ridden and later trained horses and riders for more than 20 years in a variety of settings and with varying experience levels. She earned a bachelor's in equine veterinary technology and equine facility management from Otterbein University and an associate degree in veterinary technology from Columbus State Community College. During school and after graduation, she spent nights delivering foals at a Standardbred breeding farm for five years and later prepared them for sale. She has worked in the Large Animal Intensive Care Unit at The Ohio State Veterinary Medical Center the past 12 years, treating horses and livestock ranging from cows and goats to camels and reindeer. Denney is an active volunteer with World Vets, an international veterinary aid organization that travels abroad, providing veterinary care to impoverished areas offering preventative medicine, sterilizations, and other minor surgeries, as well as animal husbandry education. She also holds certifications as an equine rehabilitation therapy assistant and most recently in Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue.
