Johnson is the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) chief medical services and compliance officer. In that capacity, he is accountable for managing the various business areas and strategies necessary for coordinating BWC’s health-care services through a network of providers and managed care organizations (MCOs). Under his purview, the various business operation is responsible to develop, maintain, and execute quality and cost-effective medical, vocational rehabilitation, and pharmaceutical benefits plans and associated fee schedules. He also develops and supports the appropriate managed-care processes, including contract management and training. Johnson establishes and maintains a quality pool of medical and vocational service providers to make certain injured workers have access to quality, cost-effective and timely care. In addition, he establishes, maintains and implement claims, medical and vocational policies, rules and training to direct handling of claims from inception to resolution. Johnson evaluates and processes medical bills, guaranteeing proper and timely payment consistent with benefits plan criteria. He has been with the bureau since June of 2008. Prior to BWC, he worked as the chief financial officer for Parman Group, a former vocational rehabilitation service company. Johnson also worked in various leadership roles, with Nationwide BetterHealth. After a nine-year professional career with the State of Ohio Department of Health, he joined Nationwide Insurance in 1994 as a manager within the office of health planning & development. Johnson received his juris doctorate from the Capital University Law & Graduate Center and his master's in public administration from The Ohio State University. He is a licensed member of the Ohio Bar, The United States District Court, Southern District, and The United States District Court of Appeals, 6th Circuit.
